Can a person have ill effects when exposed to polyurethane, Acetone, Rubbing alcohol, Etc?

I recently had an allergic reaction to some chemicals i used at work. I didnt break out until about a month of being around them. Is this normal. They terminated me cause of it so any advice on how to get the hives to go away without going to the doctor?
