Any idea how to access old files from broken hard drive?

My files in my hard drive are so important but I dont have any back-up CDs and External HDDs. Now, i have a faulty hard drive, or maybe the laptop itself. But does anyone know how to access these files? Even if the hard drive is considered "dead"?
