Does a rusty evaporator coil in a home a/c constitute a leaky/faulty coil?

i dont work on them but i take apart old ones to say more then likely that is it. if you open it be carefull the freeon is nasty i wont even mess with them untill an expert reclaims the stuff. if u look around the unit if there is any abnormal white staining thats ur leak freeon leaves a residue or stain that would not be there unless u have a leak. you should also check pipe fittings and coroded copper when it gets old aand has cold freeon it can weaken the pipe and may leak. if all else fails you can get a new ac and scrap the old one for 80 bucks good luck
