How to do acrylic nails?

i got told to use acetone on my brush then dip it straight into the powder ??? but i though that you had to use monomer/ acrylic liquid. Apparantly thats how they have always done it (with acetone)but isnt the acetone used for stripping the acrylic. im soo confused could someone help please ???
