IPod earphones.........?

Right I have bought several new earphones over the past 6 months... I thought they were faulty (silly me) it turns out that it's my iPod... When I plug my earphones in, it only comes out of one ear and I want to know if anyone has had this experience before and what they did, please help :) it's an iPod 2nd gen 16GB :)
